Mountain Laurel Handrail
I made this handrail from a mountain laurel bough salvaged from the client’s property. After measuring the staircase and existing newel post, I used a sliding compound miter saw, bandsaw, and table saw to correctly shape the bough for the installation. I used a card scraper and spindle sander to remove bark and finish the bough to the client’s specification, and then I used a wood lathe to make a custom dowel from excess material to hide the fasteners.
